Daniel Levy may have sold Tottenham fans a dream by pointing out the ‘buy-back clause’ included in Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich. Reports indicate that the clause is not at all straightforward, and Kane will ultimately have the final say on whether or not he wants to return to the Londoners.
Bayern plugged away for most of the summer before finally agreeing an initial £86million deal for Kane. Levy stayed true to character and drove a hard bargain before eventually letting go of the England captain, who only had one year left on his contract.
In a rare appearance as part of a fans’ forum this week, Levy was asked whether or not there was a buy-back clause included in the deal. “Of course,” he replied.
However, recent reports indicate that the clause Levy alluded to is only a ‘first option agreement’, which would put Tottenham ahead of other Premier League clubs in the queue if Bayern agreed to sell him.

Spurs would still have to negotiate a transfer fee with Bayern, and the move would then depend on whether Kane wanted a second spell with the Lilywhites, and indeed a second spell working under Levy.
The pair’s relationship became strained during the summer, when Kane was barred from the Tottenham training ground shortly before his move to the Bundesliga went through.

As a result, according to The Telegraph, Kane said no personal goodbyes after almost two decades at the club, and the player’s family did not access their stadium suite to retrieve their belongings. The 30-year-old has hit the ground running since joining up with Thomas Tuchel in Germany.

“Obviously, over the summer I know there were some talks between a few clubs in the background, but Bayern were a team I was really interested and excited by,” said Kane ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Manchester United.
“There were not too many other discussions once they came in. It was between them and Tottenham to talk and then the deal got done. My focus is on here. Manchester United are a great club, a really big club as well. I just decided to come here and am really happy I have.”
