Gary Neville has claimed that Erik ten Hag has ‘some bugs within the Manchester United dressing room’ that could be creating some ‘discomfort and uncertainty’.

It comes amid the Red Devils’ underwhelming start to the season that has seen them drop to 13th in the Premier League standings, having lost three of their opening five matches while picking up two wins.

United were beaten 3-1 by Brighton on Saturday at Old Trafford, a loss that has sparked much commentary from former pros, including Neville, who claimed the club had a ‘culture of greed and ill discipline’ that was brought about by the Glazer family’s ownership.

Their Dutch manager has meanwhile been embroiled in a feud with Jadon Sancho, who has been banished from first team training after he posted a message on social media claiming he was made a scapegoat following talks with the Man United boss.

Questions have been also asked of Harry Maguire’s position at the club after he has fallen down in Ten Hag’s pecking order of defenders, before being stripped of the captain’s arm band in the summer.

And Neville, who played for Untied 602 times during his career, has given his analysis of United’s current situation behind the scenes hinting that there may be some problems in the dressing room.

‘The only thing I would say is, how popular is Sancho in the dressing room? How popular is Maguire in the dressing room?’ Neville said in a video posted to his TikTok account.

‘He’s got some bugs in there that we don’t know from the outside what discomfort and uncertainty is being created on the inside.

‘You’ve got a player who’s changing probably in the first team dressing room but is obviously over with the academy.

‘You’ve got Harry Maguire who was captain of these players now 12 months ago who is now almost been alienated to the third, fourth, fifth centre-half.

‘So he’s [Ten Hag] got some situations in there which I don’t know the damage that that is having but in terms of his work on the pitch – I don’t think Erik ten Hag will change.’

It’s not the first time Ten Hag has had to deal with issues from within the dressing room at Carrington, with the Dutchman taking a hard ball approach with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s been a difficult start to the new season with United dropping to 13th in the Premier League after losing three of their opening five matches

Neville also hoped that the curent situaton at the club didn’t end up going the same way as how other managers, like Ralph Rangnick (pictured) have fared at Manchester United

The Al-Hilal forward slammed Ten Hag for betraying him in an interview with Piers Morgan last year while he was still contracted to the club. Ronaldo subsequently left the club by mutual consent, with Ten Hag claiming he stood by his decision to let the ex-Real Madrid star go.

But while Neville acknowledged that plenty of former managers have run into difficulties at the club, he hoped that Ten Hag’s tenure would not become a repeat of the challenges certain other coaches have faced.

‘The fact of the matter is that there has been many a manager over the last ten to 12 years, since Sir Alex Ferguson left. Good managers that have found challenges at Manchester United,’ Neville added.

‘What I’m hoping at the moment is that it’s just a difficult start to the season and it’s not a repeat of what we’ve seen previously where it’s started to become challenging for Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, for David Moyes, for obviously Ralf Rangnick and for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

‘So I hope it’s not the beginning of that.’
