Owen Farrell talks up England return as France star Antoine Dupont hospitalised

Rugby World Cup: Ribbans previews England v Chile

England captain Owen Farrell has spoken about how he ‘can’t wait’ to return to Steve Borthwick’s side after being named in the team to face Chile. The Red Roses will be hoping to make it three wins from three in Group D on Saturday afternoon at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Farrell has not featured in either of England’s opening two matches of the Rugby World Cup due to suspension but is set to make his return over the weekend, replacing George Ford. Speaking ahead of the match, the 31-year-old explained: “It’s been tough-ish not playing but it has been brilliant seeing what the lads have been doing and I can’t wait to be back.”

In other news, France laid down a marker with a 96-0 win over Namibia on Thursday. The hosts impressed on the night as they broke their Rugby World Cup record for highest-scoring success, though an injury to captain Antoine Dupont has taken the gloss off of the evening.

Farrell talks up England return

England captain Owen Farrell has spoken about how he “can’t wait” to return to the pitch against Chile on Saturday.

The 31-year-old has been absent for the first two Rugby World Cup games through suspension but is set to make his return in place of George Ford.

“It’s been tough-ish not playing but it has been brilliant seeing what the lads have been doing and I can’t wait to be back,” Farrell explained, before teasing his partnership with full-back Marcus Smith.

“Marcus is obviously a fantastic player. Everybody knows what a talent he is. Hopefully we can link up and get each other involved in the game.

“There are many different ways of doing that and hopefully having him on the field seeing space will go well.”

Dupont ‘taken to hospital’ following France win

France are sweating over the fitness of Antoine Dupont and their captain was taken to hospital after a head injury in their record win over Namibia.

Dupont was on the receiving end of a head-to-head tackle that resulted in Namibia captain Johan Deysel being sent off after half-time, having initially saw yellow before the Foul Play Review Bunker intervened to upgrade the punishment.

But after receiving treatment before leaving the field, Dupont is set for medical tests on a suspected concussion and orbital floor fracture.
