Race 1: 1.15pm: MAIDEN PLATE (1600m)
The maidens lock horns in the opener over the mile at set weights, and confident improving mare 5. Dunaloce has found the right race to break through second-up off a lengthy break. Kept running home okay when based in South Australia earlier in the year and showed there’ll be good improvement now in the Nathan Doyle yard, holding his ground in her first NSW run 16 days ago at Newcastle. By Dundeel, so the more ground the better.
Racing returns to Gosford on Thursday.
Dangers: Improving 4. Doroskaya charged home from near last first-up in a Fillies & Mares maiden and gets in light after the jockey’s claim. The blinkers are back on metro colt 3. Balmierro which can flick the switch on a well-bred three-year-old who has been disappointing of late. Include 9. Djapana fifth-up over significantly more ground is all exotic plays.
How to play it: Dunaloce to win
Race 2 – 1.50pm: MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
Back to the five-furlong dash, and it shapes ideally for lightly raced five-year-old 1. Bobby Is King resuming for a second prep behind two progressive trials, bolting in at the latest at Wyong. Can utilise tactical speed from a low draw, and stable has made some key gear changes.
Dangers: There was plenty to like about the first-up run of rival Randwick filly 6. Hokusai in a handy provincial Super Maiden, and draws to park right behind the speed here. The third of the Randwick youngsters 2. Getty is also second-up off a poor run into third here as a hot favourite 12 days ago. Has placed in four from seven overall in handy company, and is bound to improve getting back on top of the ground. Two debutants Extreme Choice mare 5. Lady Extreme and Star Turn filly 7. Pretty Sassy can both run into the minor money.
How to play it: Bobby Is King to win
Race 3 – 2.25pm: CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m)
The best of talented provincial mare 6. Yankee Hussel is still in front of her, and she finds by far the weakest race of the prep fifth-up. Has failed to attack the line in her last two in much tougher grades at Flemington and Canterbury when ridden on speed, but convinced she’s more effective when ridden from further back. Looks very well weighted against this lot stepping up significantly in distance, and is the clear one to beat.
Dangers: Progressive 1. Cheval Savant is ready to win again third-up after working home okay in deeper metro company over the mile. The rest should be fighting for the minor prize, headed by 2. Four O’Clock Knock fourth-up; and 3.Muckabout who finally landed his maiden after 21 starts in BM 64 provincial grade last start.
How to play it: Yankee Hussel to win and quinella 1 and 6
Race 4 – 3.05pm: SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)
Kembla-based filly 6. All Too Lucky by group 1 winner All Too Hard maps okay on debut here off the fence, and was strong winning a recent trial in soft ground, comfortably breaking 34 secs for her last 600m.
Dangers: Tough five-year-old 1. Different Road found the line well when resuming at Hawkesbury, but a query here settling back on a tougher and smaller track. Watch the betting on Deep Field colt 2. Life Of Stone who debuts off a couple of solid trials; while 7. Hot Jive is right in the market fourth-up after surging home to miss by a long neck in a moderate country maiden in the wet, but back to provincial level on dry ground, she threatens to go around under the odds.
How top play it: All Too Lucky to win
Race 5 – 3.40pm: CLASS 1 HCP (1200m)
The same distance looks the ticket for progressive city three-year-old 1. Storm The Ramparts third-up. Tracked the speed before going home too well to claim his maiden here when resuming before again chasing well in deeper metro company. Can again settle just off the pace, and produce a superior final 400m burst.
Dangers: Big watch on lightly raced colt 7. Speed Of Light who shapes over the mark second-up from a better draw after sticking to the chase at Kembla. Drawn the fence, 4. Cosy Corner is also in the mix third-up after missing narrowly here 12 days ago as a heavily-backed fancy when shortening from $1.95 into $1.45. Fresh country maiden winner 3. Fameaux is on the next line ahead of 5. Critical Time at big odds behind an encouraging first-up run at provincial BM 64 level.
How to play it: Storm The Ramparts to win
Race 6 – 4.20pm: BENCHMARK 64 HCP (1000m)
Unbeaten country four-year-old 4. Who Goes There finds an ideal race returning for just his third start. Powered through the line in heavy going to win the second of two trials, and he possesses terrific tactical speed around a suitably small circuit. Further boost too with the early favourite preferred at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
Dangers: Keep safe 3. Temple Run who was competitive in deeper races across early spring, and reloads here off a nine-week break; while 8. Satin Silk was a tough fresh winner at Scone when backed from $2.70 into $2.40. Gap to the rest.
How to play it: Who Goes There to win
Race 7 4.55pm: PROVINCIAL BENCHMARK 64 HCP (1600m)
We finish over the distance we started at in the toughest and most open race on the program. Among a few representing big value, capable five-year-old 2. Hunter Bred can strike here at good odds second-up off a month-long break. Had a nightmare and badly checkered run resuming in similar company at Newcastle, and did a terrific job to finish under a length from the winner. That topped him off nicely for this, and he has a solid record over this journey. Will likely drift back and be cut loose from the 600m.
Dangers: Hard-fit mare 6. Street Candi can figure fifth-up dropping back from deeper Midway BM 72 company. The market will tell a story around 1. Bak Da Man fitted to run out this trip first-up behind two easy trials up to 1200m. Another one over the mark is honest 8. Hope Uno from a low draw and coming off a fast-finishing country CL3 win. Both 3. Patrika Mist a month between runs via a quiet trial; and 4. Dresden second-up; go in trifecta and first four plays.
