England fans slammed Saudi Pro League star Jordan Henderson for his first-half performance against Ukraine – including one baffling pass.

The former Liverpool captain seemed keen to recycle possession by going backwards and even wasted a golden chance to shoot when trying to nab an assist.

Ukraine had taken the lead minutes earlier as Harry Kane slotted the Al-Ettifaq man through on goal before he cut back and tried to pass to James Maddison who was being marked by a defender.

Flocking to social media, Three Lions supporters questioned what Henderson was doing as England chased an equaliser – and even called for Gareth Southgate to take him off.

One fan said: "Maddison's face when Henderson passed it to him instead of shooting…"

A second added: "Why can't Henderson shoot? Beautiful pass by Kane."

A third agreed: "I’m not quite sure Henderson knows what he is doing he’s so forward but contributing nothing."

A fourth posted: "Henderson trying to pass sideways when in on goal. Can't make it up."

A sixth concluded: "Henderson needs to get off the pitch… he's in the wrong era."

Henderson's blushed were spared as Kane's pinpoint pass allowed Kyle Walker to score his first England goal on his 77th cap to level things up before the break.

The midfielder has had a tough summer since swapping Anfield for the Middle East having been an outspoken voice for the LGBTQ+ community in the past.

He has since claimed that he hasn't moved for the money and would've stayed at Liverpool if the club wanted him to stay.

Speaking to The Athletic, Henderson said: "At that moment, I felt as though my value or the want for me to stay, with the manager and within the club, maybe it had shifted."

He added: "I wanted something that would excite me…

"It needed to be something that I felt as though I could add value in and do and try something new – a new challenge and for different reasons!"
