Rebecca Welch will become the first woman to referee a Premier League match.

Welch is set to make history by taking charge of Burnley's visit to Fulham at Craven Cottage on December 23. She had already acted as the first female fourth official in the most-watched league in the world.

The trailblazer worked alongside referee John Brooke and assistants Lee Betts and Matthew Wilkes in November's fixture between Fulham and Manchester United.

Among her list of records is also becoming the first ever woman to officiate an EFL match, having called the shots in Port Vale’s 2-0 victory over Harrogate in 2021. The 40-year-old also has experience running the line in the Premier League.
