Manchester United flop Massimo Taibi looks almost unrecognisable over 24 years on from his infamous Premier League howler.
The Red Devils signed goalkeeper Taibi for £4.5million from Serie A side Venezia in the summer of 1999, and he entered Sir Alex Ferguson's starting XI immediately to deputise for the injured Mark Bosnick.
He was named Man of the Match on his debut, a 3-2 win against Liverpool, but quickly went from hero to zero when he let Matt Le Tissier's tame shot slip through his legs in a 3-3 draw with Southampton.

Taibi made just one more United appearance after that glaring error, a 5-0 defeat to Chelsea which spelled the end of his time at the club. United loaned him back to Italy in the January transfer window before selling him to Reggina for £2.5m at the end of the season.
Nowadays the former shot stopper is sporting director of his old side, who play in Serie D after being expelled from the second tier of Italian football for financial irregularities. Taibi shaved his head last year but his curls have since grown back.

Recalling his time at United, he previously said: "It was just one of those things which happen to goalkeepers. I’ve seen plenty in England and Italy, believe me. Going through the legs, it looks ridiculous, but it happens often. It’s not the first, it wasn’t the last.
"I had a similar incident like that at Torino. It happens. It’s an accident, not an error. An error is to come out for the ball and miss it but an innocuous shot which goes through your legs is just a total accident.

"Unfortunately, the week after, we went to Chelsea and lost 5-0 and as I couldn’t play in the Champions League having already been registered with Milan, Ferguson decided, rightly, to sit me out for a little, to give me time to learn the language."
While Taibi is remembered by English fans for his clanger, he remarkably scored for Reggina in April 2001, heading home a crucial equaliser in a relagtion clash against Udinese.
