The shirts went on sale at 8am but fans clamouring for a shirt moments later were left bereft due to the high demand.

A limited wave of Mary Earps shirts released by Nike in October also sold out at blistering speed.

This latest sell-out has once again proven the popularity of England goalkeeper shirts, as per The Evening Standard’s report, with adult sizes selling for £84.85.

However, the sportswear manufacturer made a U-turn on that call when Earps ripped into them and more than 170,000 people signed a petition imploring them to change their mind.

In the summer, Earps was dumbfounded with Nike’s decision not to sell her shirt ven though she was a top seller on Manchester United’s website.

She said: ‘I can’t really sugarcoat this any way so I’m not going to try, it’s hugely disappointing and very hurtful.

‘It’s something that I’ve been fighting behind closed doors. I’ve been desperately trying to find a solution with the FA and with Nike.

‘On a personal level it’s obviously hugely hurtful, considering the last 12 months especially.

‘For my own family, friends and loved ones not to be able to buy my shirt, they’re just going to come out and wear normal clothes. All my team-mates, they’ve ordered a lot of shirts for their friends and family, they’re talking at the dinner table “I wasn’t able to get this” and I’m saying “I wasn’t able to get it at all”.

‘I know there’s a lot of people who have spent a tremendous amount of money on outfield shirts and then put ‘1 Earps’ on the back, which doesn’t sit well with me either.

Earps called the initial refusal to sell goalkeeper shirts ‘hugely disappointing and very hurtful’

‘It’s a very scary message that’s being sent to goalkeepers worldwide that “you’re not important.”‘

Earps received widespread support after speaking out and Nike reversed their decision, even though selling female goalkeeper shirts was not part of their original ‘commercial strategy’.

After a quick adult-size sell-out on Monday morning, some children’s size shirts were still available in the afternoon, as per The Times.

The children’s shirts were selling for £65. If an adult or kid wanted to add Earps’ name and number, it cost a further £15.
