Joey Barton takes aim at Alex Scott as he continues rant against female pundits

Joey Barton has continued his social media rant against female pundits by taking aim at Arsenal and Lionesses legend Alex Scott.

Barton, who was sacked by League One side Bristol Rovers back in October, tuned in on Wednesday evening to watch Amazon Prime's Premier League coverage, which was fronted by a diverse cast of pundits, and commentators across the six fixtures they streamed.

Amongst the individuals provide coverage for Amazon were Gabby Logan, Eni Aluko and Siobhan Chamberlain, something which seems to have angered Barton so much that he took to social media to embark on an unhinged rant about female pundits.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, the ex-Manchester City, Newcastle United and QPR midfielder said: "Any man who listens to Women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing…"

He also added: "Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently. The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena."

The controversial comments have been panned across the footballing landscape, with plenty of fans and pundits criticising Barton for his outdated opinions. Nonetheless, that has not stopped Barton from continuing to mouth off about 'women's football', by taking aim at Alex Scott.

In replying to a comment on social media from BBC Radio host Simon Harris, who pointed out Scott, has a degree in sports writing and broadcasting, which makes her more than qualified to front a show about 'men's football', Barton wrote: "Again, fantastic women’s footballer. Decorated in her game. If she’s presenting a men’s game, no problem, anchor the show.

"But, no, she isn’t qualified to talk with any authority about the men’s game in my opinion. You will clearly disagree? But you no doubt sold your conkers off to the XX chromosome gang years ago… (If at all you had any to begin with!)"

Of course, that has prompted football fans to ask Barton whether everything with him is ok. One fan replied to his comment sarcastically: "Lad you thought speaking English with a french accent was speaking French. Not sure you’re qualified to talk down to anyone."

A third added: "But it's still football. Jake Humphrey never played professional football so whys he allowed to be on tnt for champions league finals." And a fourth said: "someone disagreed with me, so they must have no testicles. Totally normal you lad."

Barton also received a response from Laura Woods, who wrote: "Usually avoid these conversations as I don’t like adding more oxygen. But throwing young vloggers to the wolves is wrong. I started my career vlogging & I’ve always got on with Joey. He also sent me a lovely good luck message for TNT in June. Does that make him a eunuch too?"
