Everton face huge points deduction as ‘severe’ FFP punishment recommended

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright dies aged 78

Everton may be hit with a hammer blow in their quest for top-flight survival as the Premier League have reportedly recommended that they receive a 12-point deduction. The Toffees are fighting an ongoing case related to breaching profit and sustainability rules.

A turbulent few years on the pitch culminated in Everton clinging onto Premier League status by the skin of their teeth last season. This campaign looks set to be another long slog, with Sean Dyche’s side winning only two of their first nine league matches.

And things could get a whole lot worse, with the threat of severe sanctions looming large at Goodison Park. According to The Telegraph, Premier League bosses have recommended a 12-point deduction if they are found guilty of breaching financial regulations.

A final decision is due later this year, with the case being heard by an independent commission. The Toffees previously reported monumental losses of £371.8million over a three-year timespan – more than three times the amount permitted by the Premier League.
