Erling Haaland has become the youngest Champions League goalscorer to reach 27 goals, breaking the record set by Kylian Mbappe.
The Manchester City striker has been experiencing somewhat of a scoring drought after helping secure Pep Guardiola’s side their historic treble at the end of last season.
But the Norway international was inch-perfect from the spot to net his first goal in five Champions League matches against Young Boys on Wednesday evening.
Man City won the clash in Switzerland 3-1, with Haaland’s second goal ensuring the visitors held onto their spot atop Group G – as well as engraving his name in the history books yet again.
At just 23 years and 96 days old, Haaland swiped the honour from the Paris Saint-Germain starlet, who completed his haul at the age of 23 years and 295 days.

The record is just the latest in a string that Haaland has broken in Europe’s storied contest.
Last season, the striker became the youngest player to reach 30 Champions League goals – again pipping Mbappe to the post – as well as being the fastest to the number.
It took Haaland just 25 appearances in the tournament to tally up the haul, with his record-breaker coming as part of a 7-0 drubbing of RB Leipzig at the Etihad in March.
During his white-hot night in sky blue, Haaland also became the third player in Champions League history to score five times in a single tie.

The player’s first-ever Champions League goal came in Salzburg’s colours in September 2019
Haaland sits behind Lionel Messi, who notched up the sum in Barcelona colours, and former Shakhtar Donetsk striker Luiz Adriano.
In the same vein, Haaland also holds the record as the fastest player to have reached 20 Champions League goals – and in 14 matches, in the fewest number appearances.
At the end of the 2022-23 campaign, an eye-opening 12 of Haaland’s 52 goals came in a competition that he has previously described as his favourite.
This season, Haaland has started more modestly, scoring his first two on Wednesday, and registering a solitary assist against Red Star Belgrade.
