Mosconi Cup ace sends fans wild with golden break ‘harder than 147 or 9-darter’

Albin Ouschan and the rest of Team Europe were left celebrating wildly after the Austrian nailed a golden break at the Mosconi Cup.

The nine-ball pool tournament is celebrating its 30-year anniversary at the Alexandra Palace this week, with Ouschan and co looking to defend the title they won in Las Vegas last year. Day one of the four day event kicked off on Wednesday, with Team Europe looking to win their fourth consecutive Mosconi Cup – which is essentially the Ryder Cup of pool.

And on day one, Ouschan had the crowd in attendance – and his team-mates – celebrating wildly when he hit a golden break by potting the 1-ball as Spandau Ballet's 'Gold' blared out of the speakers at the Ally Pally.

However, the impressive feat from Ouschan, which helped Team Europe to a 4-0 lead over Team USA on day one, got sports fans on social media talking. Often in sport, it is difficult to quantify perfection.

But, in pool, snooker and darts, perfection can be achieved through a golden break, a 147 or a nine dart finish, leading fans to debate amongst themselves which is the hardest of the three.

What's harder? A golden break, a 147 or a nine dart finish? Let us know in the comments section below.

One fan commented on the video of Ouschan nailing the golden break: "Harder than a nine-darter or a 147 imo." However, others disagreed. In response, one fan replied: "I’m assuming this is a joke." Another added: "9 tiny targets in a row, 36 perfect shots in a row, hit ball with big stick hard once. No. Just no."

A third added in agreement by suggesting the golden break was nowhere near as impressive as a 147, writing: "Celebrating like he’s just knocked in a 147" with a shrug emoji.

A fourth commented: "How does anyone ever miss on them tables." And a fifth said: "I thought it was going to show him clearing the table from the break, what a disappointment."

However, the best comment with regard to Ouschan's golden break came from one social media user who compared the Austrian's "fluke" shot to the Ewoks celebrating the explosion of the Death Star in Star Wars' Return of the Jedi. They wrote: "Celebrating a fluke like the Ewoks celebrated the Death Star exploding, don’t get it."
