Angry golf star loses three clubs in tree after hurling driver in frustration

Golf star Joost Luiten was left red faced during the DP World Tour Championship when he chucked his driver into a tree – only to lose another two trying to retrieve the first club.

Arriving at the Jumeriah Golf Estates in Dubai to compete for a place in the DP World Tour's top 10 order of merit in an effort to earn a PGA Tour card spot for 2024, Luiten drove a wayward shot off the tee on the ninth hole.

But instead of simply putting it behind him after he had bogeyed the eighth hole, the Dutchman opted to throw his driver high into the air, with it getting stuck in a tree.

Obviously, losing his driver at that moment was an embarrassing one for the 37-year-old. However, things went from bad to worse for Luiten, who then proceeded to lose another two clubs in the branches of the tree trying to retrieve his driver.

While there were some in attendance who found the event humorous, it seemed as though Luiten didn't share their laughter, with the golfer seen kicking his bag in frustration. Thankfully, his clubs were eventually returned to him on the 10th hole when some volunteers managed to extract them from the tree.

"They both stayed up there as well," Luiten said after his round, which saw him finish 48th out of 50.

He added: "So I moved on with 11 clubs. What can I say, it was frustrating, a week when nothing went my way."
