Furious fans have insisted that Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo should have been sent off during his side’s clash with Newcastle on Tuesday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As the Blues took on the Magpies in their Carabao Cup quarter-final, the \u00a3115million summer signing was shown a yellow card inside the first minute for a rash challenge.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Caicedo was seen challenging for the ball with Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon before scraping his studs down the winger’s back-leg.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It left Gordon writhing around in agony before match official Jarred Gillett brandished a yellow card to the former Brighton midfielder.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite the incident occurring in the first minute of the match, fans on social media were quick to suggest that Caicedo should’ve been sent off for the challenge.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sky Sports pundit and former Man United defender Gary Neville was one of the first to comment on the incident, as he bluntly wrote: ‘Red’.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mail Sport’s Craig Hope made reference to the absence of the Video Assistant Referee on the night, as he wrote: ‘No VAR tonight… with it is that a red card for Caicedo? Went right down the back of Gordon calf\/achilles’.<\/p>\n
‘Anthony Gordon was injured by a nasty tackle from Caicedo with the latters studs hitting the back of Gordon\u2019s leg. Caicedo escaped another straight red,’ another wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One user brandished it as a: ‘Horrendous challenge from Caicedo on Gordon. That\u2019s a red 9 times out of 10. #nufc’\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Premier League refs in matches without VAR now frightened to give a red card as they\u2019ve not got a back up if they\u2019re wrong. That\u2019s an absolutely disgusting challenge by Caicedo. The one by Colwill nearly as bad and not even a bloody free kick! #nufc’\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a similar theme, one fan wrote: ‘Caicedo is shown red if there is VAR tonight… Lucky there isn\u2019t. Not a clue what he\u2019s thinking there’.<\/p>\n
