Jake Paul sealed the eighth win of his professional career following an emphatic victory over Andre August.

The 26-year-old knocked out his opponent in the very first round with a clean uppercut that sent August tumbling to the deck, and left brother Logan open-mouthed on the sidelines.

The bout was something of a must-win for Paul, who has only faced one other career boxer since taking up the sport in 2020. He came up short against Tommy Fury back February but proved some of his doubters wrong with his first win over a genuine boxer.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer headed into the clash with a record of seven wins from eight professional fights. His most recent victory came against UFC star Nate Diaz in August. He also has triumphed over former MMA fighters Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley. Meanwhile, August, 35, entered the bout with 10 professional wins to his name from 12 fights, with five of them coming via knockout.

Paul couldn't help but turn his focus to digging out long-term rival KSI after the victory, too. He had been sparring with Speed on a stream at the same time as Paul's fight. The American said: "I don't know, I don't care. He's chasing views as a 30-year-old man and I'm chasing legacy and belts. All kudos to him, I hope he makes his wildest dreams come true."

On his own night's work, Paul delivered on his promise of a first round knockout. He said: "I said first round knockout all week, I manifested this, this is the power of manifestation and I said I need to bring back the old Problem Child.

"I've been too nice with these people, letting them go into the later rounds. I set up my shot and he went night, night. I told him he was going to need a Celcius to wake up."

Paul has received plaudits for his performance. UFC icon Francis Ngannou, who pushed Tyson Fury all the way on his boxing debut in October, posted: "The kid’s got skills congrats on an amazing performance @jakepaul."

As for the future, Paul is adamant he can be the "best in the world". He said: "If the money fights wanna come, I’ve got smoke for them, too. But right now, I’m focused on being the best in the world and creating one of the greatest sports stories in the history of sports.

"It’s incredible to inspire these young kids. Whatever you want to do, you can pursue it and rise to the top.”
