Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A golden rule in football is that you always play to the whistle \u2013 and Porto&#8217;s players were reminded exactly why during their crunch Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>During the first half of the Group H game in Portugal, Porto led thanks to a Galeno opener in the ninth minute before Shakhtar controversially equalised in rather bizarre circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>With Porto defending, Shakhtar&#8217;s\u00a0Oleksandr Zubkov is found with a long ball after making a darting run down the right wing, leaving him with a man to beat to get a sight at goal.<\/p>\n<p>However, as Zubkov dribbles at his defender, footage shows the linesman raising his flag for offside with many of the Porto players slowing down as a result, but referee Istvan Kovacs waves play on.<\/p>\n<p>The confusion then allows Zubkov to dart into the box uncontested, square the ball across the face of goal for Danylo Sikan to tap the ball into the net for an equaliser.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/14\/09\/78953005-12863185-image-a-38_1702547701426.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Porto&#8217;s players are left incensed after ref Istvan Kovacs allows Shakhtar&#8217;s equaliser to stand<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/14\/09\/78953007-12863185-image-m-37_1702547677865.jpg\" height=\"356\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Controversial moment came when the linesman flagged for offside during the visitors&#8217; attack<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/14\/10\/78953003-12863185-image-a-40_1702548054975.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Pepe (No 3) leads the protests as the referee signals that the goal has been given to Shakhtar<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>On commentary, Martin Tyler pointed out how play hadn&#8217;t stopped despite the linesman&#8217;s actions. He said: &#8216;He was wafting the flag, but I don\u2019t think they stopped the play.
