Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Northampton Town&#8217;s DJ has been forced to apologise after playing Wham&#8217;s festive hit &#8216;Last Christmas&#8217; at a recent match.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fans have fumed that by doing so, thousands will have lost the holiday game &#8216;Whamaggedon&#8217; &#8211; where people try to avoid the song for as long as possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Once the song is heard, that person is eliminated &#8211; hence the frustration of the 7,215 people at the Sixfields Stadium on December 2nd attending their clash with Portsmouth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I never knew people took it so seriously,&#8217; said Matt Facer, also known as DJ Matty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I gave it a spin, thinking it would be quite funny to wipe out 7,000 people who couldn&#8217;t avoid it, but clearly it isn&#8217;t funny.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/14\/78790471-12847241-image-m-4_1702219321039.jpg\" height=\"392\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Northampton Town&#8217;s DJ has been forced to apologise after playing Wham &#8216;s festive hit &#8216;Last Christmas &#8216; at a recent match<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/14\/78790473-12847241-Fans_have_fumed_that_by_doing_so_thousands_will_have_lost_the_ho-m-5_1702219337278.jpg\" height=\"435\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Fans have fumed that by doing so, thousands will have lost the holiday game &#8216;Whamaggedon&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I had a bit of an insult on Twitter, light-hearted, [saying] it was not a nice thing to do, and apparently that was quite tame to what was being said in the stadium.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;So I officially apologise to everybody whose Christmas I&#8217;ve ruined.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;DJ Matty&#8217; has since promised fans that he will not ruin the game for anyone else, especially those who attended their 3-0 win over Fleetwood Town on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He told BBC Radio Northampton: &#8216;I can take on the chin with my home fans and Portsmouth, but I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ll be playing it again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think it&#8217;s a shame people in professions like mine can&#8217;t play Wham! until [late] December, but it&#8217;s a game and we all have to jump on board.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Last Christmas reached number two on its release, finally reaching the top spot on 1 January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The game &#8216;Whamageddon&#8217; started approximately 10 years ago and has continued to grow in popularity since then, namely through social media.<\/p>\n<p>In the present day, the game has set rules, a dedicated website and merchandise.<\/p>\n<p>The game&#8217;s rules state: &#8216;While we can&#8217;t stop you from deliberately sending your friends to Whamhalla, the intention is that this is a survival game.
