Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario sent a sharp message to Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson.

The Italian shot-stopper was between the sticks as Ange Postecoglou's side secured a dominant 4-1 victory over the Toon. Vicario, 27, was in the middle of a rather fierce argument, after he made some cheeky faces at Wilson when he came out and gathered the ball.

The ex-Bournemouth forward took exception to the summer signing's goading, immediately getting into the ex-Empoli goalkeeper's face. After Wilson took some time in his post-match interview to hit out at Vicario and some of his team-mates, the new Tottenham hero spat some venom of his own at the England international.

When asked about the confrontation between him and the goalkeeper, Wilson said: “There’s a way to win isn’t there. I think we’ve seen it in the week when Everton were winning and Pickford was messing around.

“The goalkeeper goes up for a header he starts pulling faces and messing around and It’s just a lack of respect I thought. I said my piece and we’re grown men and we move on.”

After Wilson's words did the rounds on social media, Vicario offered a blunt response of his own. He wrote: “Respect is given… to everyone that respects me!”

Tottenham emphatically overcame Eddie Howe's side in ruthless fashion. The North Londoners had gone five matches without a victory, four of which ended in defeats to Chelsea, Wolves, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

However, Destiny Udogie and Richarlison both found the net in the first half, before the latter doubled his tally for the game in the second period. Son Heung-Min then ensured the victory with a finely taken penalty in the 85th minute.

Vicario did not manage to keep a clean sheet as Joelinton added a late consolation goal in added time.
