The book was seemingly pointing towards Fernandes' play-acting during their 7-0 trouncing at the hands of Liverpool in March.

Sir Jim will have his eyes on Liverpool and United next week, when the two bitter rivals clash at Anfield. However, there will be no Fernandes for Erik ten Hag's side when they make the short journey to Merseyside.

Fernandes will be suspended for the crunch match after he picked up needless yellow card against Bournemouth on Saturday for bickering with Peter Bankes in the 84th minute – when the game was long gone.

It was another embarrassing result for Ten Hag's side at Old Trafford, as Bournemouth registered their first ever win at the ground.

United could now slip and slide down the Premier League table over the Christmas period, all with Sir Jim's takeover looking set to be finalised in the background.
