Arsenal icon Jens Lehmann is standing trial for allegedly using a chainsaw on his elderly neighbour's garage.

The ex-Germany international, 54, has been accused of trespassing, causing damage, committing fraud and insulting behaviour, as well as dodging parking fees and insulting police officers. He denied all charges in a court in Starnberg, Bavaria on Friday, insisting that "enormous damage" had been done to his reputation.

It was reported that Lehmann chainsawed the beams of his neighbour’s new garage because they obstructed the view of Starnberg Lake from his home in July last year. He also reportedly ripped out the cable of a CCTV camera before using the chainsaw, but unfortunately for Lehmann, the camera was battery operated and police are suggesting it caught the former goalkeeper in the act.

Lehmann posted a statement regarding the charges on Instagram saying: "The allegations raised against me are not accurate like that. The fraud allegations against me are regarding an unpaid parking ticket of €90. The damage done to my reputation is enormous and my privacy is being ignored."

According to German outlet BILD, Lehmann has been dodging parking fees by speeding under a barrier at Munich Airport. On two occasions, once in January 2021 and again in September 2022, Lehmann drove out of the parking garage without paying.

It's understood Lehmann followed other vehicles through the gate before the barrier came down. He later apologised after being caught in act by security cameras.

Lehmann was part of Arsenal's iconic Invincibles side that won the Premier League title without losing a league match in 2003/04. He joined the club that summer from Dortmund and went on to make 200 appearances for the Gunners across two spells. He also played for Schalke, Stuttgart and AC Milan.

He retired in 2011 following a brief second spell back at Arsenal and is now a TV pundit in Germany. He also had short stints at Arsenal and Augsburg as a coach, as well as at Hertha Berlin as a member of the club's board.
