Bobby Zamora has revealed what Carlos Tevez was like in training – revealing he didn't necessarily apply himself to the full extent.

Zamora and Tevez were team-mates for one season at West Ham after the Argentine joined with compatriot Javier Mascherano. The forward's goals fired the Hammers to safety in controversial circumstances as they stayed up above Sheffield United on the last day of the season.

He left after just one year at Upton Park, opting to join Manchester United on loan in consecutive campaigns before a subsequent move to Manchester City. Tevez later joined Juventus and Shanghai Shenhua either side of two spells at Boca Juniors.

Speaking on the Undr the Cosh podcast, Zamora revealed what Tevez was like in training for the Hammers, and how he was just as in the dark as the fans of the club when both he and Mascherano joined.

"I had no idea who they hell they were," Zamora admitted. "Not really. The game wasn't like it is now. They played in South America. At least now you could go on YouTube and find out who they are, back then I don't think…I certainly didn't [know].

Zamora added: "Tevez was the worst trainer in the f***ing world; rubbish. He'd just walk about. Obviously he had flashes of brilliance but he wouldn't try a leg really in training. But on a Saturday he'd work his c*** off. Again, you don't mind that."

Tevez certainly proved that out on the pitch, scoring three crucial goals in West Ham's last two matches, including the winner against Manchester United on the final day of the season to guarantee safety.

Mascherano, by contrast, only played seven games for the east Londoners before joining Liverpool on loan. But that was still enough time for Zamora to wax lyrical about his abilities in training.

He continued: "Javier Mascherano was f***ing unbelievable in training every single day." Reflecting on their desire to learn English, he added: "Learning English…Tevez…no, [he'd] just go and play golf. He didn't speak English when he went to City or Man Utd. They were completely chalk and cheese."
