{"id":299067,"date":"2023-12-05T00:24:51","date_gmt":"2023-12-05T00:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=299067"},"modified":"2023-12-05T00:24:51","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T00:24:51","slug":"sunderland-sack-tony-mowbray-while-swansea-dismiss-michael-duff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/sunderland-sack-tony-mowbray-while-swansea-dismiss-michael-duff\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunderland sack Tony Mowbray while Swansea dismiss Michael Duff"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1> Two Championship managers are SACKED as Tony Mowbray is dismissed by Sunderland &#8211; a day after drawing Newcastle in the FA Cup &#8211; while struggling Swansea axe Michael Duff<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sunderland have parted ways with first-team manager Tony Mowbray<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Swansea have also sacked head coach Michael Duff after a difficult run of form<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Erik ten Hag has not located the soul and heartbeat of United and, without it, they are screwed &#8211; Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There was a double sacking in the Championship on Monday evening as both Sunderland and Swansea\u00a0decided to part ways with their respective managers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sunderland announced Tony Mowbray had left the club just a day after they were drawn at home to Newcastle in the third round of the FA Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Mowbray&#8217;s\u00a0 assistant, Mark Venus, has also departed, with Mick Dodds placed in temporary charge of the first-team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Black Cats featured in last season&#8217;s play offs under Mowbray before losing to eventual promotion winners Luton, however have struggled so far this season.<\/p>\n<p>Mowbray oversaw 65 matches at Sunderland&#8217;s helm, recording 1.46 points-per-match, after replacing Alex Neil who left to join Sunderland in August last year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/23\/78575303-12825513-image-a-86_1701733229236.jpg\" height=\"430\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sunderland parted company with first-team manager Tony Mowbray after 15 months in charge<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/23\/78575597-12825513-image-a-101_1701733937818.jpg\" height=\"445\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Swansea have also sacked first-team manager Michael Duff after a difficult run of form<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Sunderland&#8217;s sporting director Kristjaan Speakman announced Mowbray&#8217;s sacking via the club&#8217;s official website, stating:\u00a0&#8216;This was a difficult decision to make.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But we remain loyal to our ambition and our strategy, and felt that now was the right moment to take this step.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We are now focused on identifying the right candidate and we will continue to support our coaching team and players throughout the interim period.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Swansea have decided to replace\u00a0Michael Duff following a disappointing six months in charge with the club languishing near the bottom of the Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The 45-year-old was given the vacancy at the Welsh side in the summer having successfully guided\u00a0Barnsley to the League One playoff final last season.<\/p>\n<p>Duff&#8217;s struggles eventually led to the club deciding to replace the Northern Irishman with Swansea dropping to 18th and without a win in their last five games when they beat Blackburn at the end of October.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/23\/78575309-12825513-image-a-88_1701733246920.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Duff and Mowbray have been relieved of their duties at the respective Championship clubs<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/23\/78575625-12825513-image-m-103_1701733950634.jpg\" height=\"395\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Mowbray guided Sunderland to the Championship play offs last season but has since struggled<\/p>\n<p>Assistant manager\u00a0Martin Paterson has also left his role, with\u00a0fellow assistant head coach Alan Sheehan tasked with taking caretaker charge.<\/p>\n<p>Swansea chairman Andy Coleman released a statement in the wake of Duff&#8217;s sacking, adding: &#8216;This was a very difficult decision and one that was given considerable thought and attention.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I acknowledge that there has been a significant amount of change at the club, both on and off the pitch, during Michael&#8217;s tenure. I consistently asked for patience as we gave him time to implement his plans and bring the squad together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Unfortunately, we have seen neither the results that we expect nor the progress from the squad that we need.
