{"id":298984,"date":"2023-12-03T21:25:29","date_gmt":"2023-12-03T21:25:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=298984"},"modified":"2023-12-03T21:25:29","modified_gmt":"2023-12-03T21:25:29","slug":"jamie-carragher-says-marcus-rashford-reminds-me-of-anthony-martial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/jamie-carragher-says-marcus-rashford-reminds-me-of-anthony-martial\/","title":{"rendered":"Jamie Carragher says Marcus Rashford &apos;reminds me of Anthony Martial&apos;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1> Jamie Carragher blasts Marcus Rashford and says he &#8216;reminds me of Anthony Martial&#8217; as he slams the Man United star&#8217;s &#8216;unacceptable&#8217; performance in Newcastle defeat<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Marcus Rashford produced another poor performance against Newcastle<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Jamie Carragher slammed the Man United winger for his lack of leadership<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>We expected perfection from VAR &#8211; we haven&#8217;t got it: Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jamie Carragher believes Marcus Rashford is failing to fulfil his leadership duties at Manchester United and slammed the struggling forward for producing an &#8216;unacceptable&#8217; performance against Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>Rashford signed a new \u00a3300,000-per-week contract in the summer that keeps him at United until 2028, but has fallen way short of living up to the standards of last season.<\/p>\n<p>The England international has scored just two\u00a0Premier League goals this season, his last a penalty against Everton, and was again off the pace as the Magpies sealed a 1-0 win over United at St James&#8217; Park on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Supporters and pundits have slammed Rashford&#8217;s most recent showing and highlighted a series of moments in the match against Newcastle where he failed to run back and help out defensively, even when he was responsible for conceding possession.<\/p>\n<p>United&#8217;s difficult season has left them currently outside the top four and already nine points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, with other players alongside Rashford also dropping below the necessary standards.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/03\/20\/78529705-12820755-image-a-1_1701634792071.jpg\" height=\"435\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Marcus Rashford again struggled for Man United as they were beaten by Newcastle on Saturday<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/03\/20\/78529709-12820755-image-a-2_1701634795956.jpg\" height=\"452\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Rashford was criticised for failing to carry out his defensive duties against Newcastle<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/03\/20\/78529781-12820755-image-a-3_1701634967739.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Rashford is one of the senior players at United having been brought up through the club&#8217;s academy<\/p>\n<p>Carragher slammed the United winger for failing in his leadership duties as a &#8216;local&#8217; player having been brought up in Manchester, and compared him to Anthony Martial who the former Liverpool defender claimed &#8216;doesn&#8217;t care&#8217; about the club.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It looks like big problems [at Man United]. I can&#8217;t actually believe where Man Untied are in the table,&#8217; Carragher told Sky Sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Watching Marcus Rashford last night that was an unacceptable performance for a few reasons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;That lad didn&#8217;t play midweek in the Champions League, but I have been a local player and it&#8217;s not easy especially when the team is not doing well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;For Rashford and myself and Gerrard at Liverpool it&#8217;s your job to fix it and drag others up with you,&#8217; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Watching Rashford he reminds me of Martial and that is worst possible thing you can say about him.\u00a0Foreign player comes in and doesn&#8217;t really care. You do not stop running for that badge and your supporters as you are supposedly one of them,&#8217; said Carragher.<\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool legend further expressed frustration at Rashford&#8217;s current lack of form and compared him to Son Heung-min&#8217;s outing against Man City who he praised for being a &#8216;leader&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There was a player today, Son did not stop running. He got his goal and was involved, but when we talk abut great players in this league, Son today didn&#8217;t stop running. He was a leader.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;What you&#8217;re asking for from Rashford is leadership.
