While Onana has started his Old Trafford career by playing every game, Bayindir has got down to work in the relative privacy of Carrington without making a first-team appearance for his new club.<\/p>\n<p>The 6ft 6in Turkey international was brought in to provide genuine competition for Onana, though, and it is known that the Cameroon keeper is nervous about losing his place when he goes to the Africa Cup of Nations next month and misses up to seven games for United.<\/p>\n<p>The reality in the wake of another difficult Champions League night is that Onana\u2019s 25-year-old understudy may be brought in before then. For tomorrow\u2019s crunch game against Newcastle at St James\u2019 Park perhaps?<\/p>\n<p>Probably not, but Bayindir\u2019s chances of taking over in goal improved significantly after Onana conceded two saveable free-kicks from Hakim Ziyech as Galatasaray fought back to hold United 3-3 in Istanbul on Wednesday night \u2014 a result that leaves Erik ten Hag\u2019s side on the brink of elimination from the Champions League.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/30\/21\/78443575-12811479-image-m-33_1701380720916.jpg\" height=\"443\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Andre Onana had a nightmare evening on Wednesday where he was at fault for Galatasaray&#8217;s first two goals<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/30\/21\/78443577-12811479-image-m-35_1701380766009.jpg\" height=\"447\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He could be taken out of the firing line and replaced by Altay Bayindir (right)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/30\/22\/78445061-12811479-image-a-45_1701383149007.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Erik ten Hag has a decision to make on whether to stick with Onana or change to Bayindir<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>They must beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford in the final group game but will still go out if there is a winner in the Copenhagen-Galatasaray game.<\/p>\n<p>As he reflected on the latest setback in Europe, Ten Hag was asked about Bayindir and the competition among his keepers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Altay is getting used to the Premier League and he is getting used to European football, which is tough when you\u2019re coming from Turkey,\u2019 said the United manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But we are very pleased with that process, he\u2019s doing very well. He has to be patient but if he works well, if he keeps his progress, he will get his chance and then he has to take it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We are very pleased with the goalkeeper group. Andre, Altay and Tom Heaton, as a group they do really well. They have good performances and they have to push each other.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Dropping Onana would be a huge call for Ten Hag, not least because he put his own credibility and judgment on the line by signing him in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutchman called time on David de Gea\u2019s career at United after he had won the Golden Glove award last season and broken club records for appearances and clean sheets, then paid Inter Milan \u00a347.2million for his former Ajax keeper based on Onana\u2019s ability with the ball at his feet.<\/p>\n<p>It is what he does with his hands that is posing the biggest problem, however, with a number of high-profile blunders blighting Onana\u2019s formative months in Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old looked like a man in utter despair at the final whistle in Istanbul, theatrically taking off his gloves and hurling them to the ground while screaming out in frustration.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/30\/22\/78444279-12811479-image-a-46_1701383178389.jpg\" height=\"399\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Onana conceded two soft free-kicks in United&#8217;s 3-3 draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/30\/22\/78444783-12811479-image-a-42_1701382709125.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Onana made a poor error to let in a Leroy Sane strike from long range back in September<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/30\/22\/78444803-12811479-image-a-43_1701382763951.jpg\" height=\"446\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He also had a tough game when Galatasaray beat United at Old Trafford earlier this season<\/p>\n<p>There was a similar reaction after he allowed Leroy Sane\u2019s shot to creep past him when United conceded the first goal of their Champions League campaign at Bayern Munich in September. They had started confidently in Bavaria but never recovered and lost 4-3.<\/p>\n<p>Then there was the home game against Galatasaray when Onana\u2019s poor pass out resulted in a penalty and red card for Casemiro. Mauro Icardi missed from the spot but scored late on in a 3-2 win.<\/p>\n<p>Onana earned huge praise for his stoppage-time penalty save at home to Copenhagen which gave United their only win in Europe this season, and his form and confidence had been improving until Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>He is by no means to blame for all 14 goals United have conceded in their five Champions League games either, but the reality is that Onana has now made seven mistakes that have led to goals in the competition, more than any other goalkeeper over the last six years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/30\/22\/78444825-12811479-image-a-44_1701383062228.jpg\" height=\"480\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Bayindir will be under plenty of scrutiny if he plays as he is a more traditional keeper like David de Gea<\/p>\n<p>The irony is that Bayindir, too, came in for criticism towards the end of his spell at Fenerbahce before becoming United\u2019s first Turkish player when he made a \u00a34.3m move to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n<p>There were concerns that his performances had been affected by shoulder surgery in 2021 and an operation on a back hernia earlier this year, as he lost the captaincy and the support of a section of fans.
