While Max Verstappen rounded out the 2023 F1 season in impressive fashion at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, ugly scenes unfolded at a VIP party where fans were filmed smacking each other with champagne bottles.

At the Yas Marina circuit, Red Bull's Verstappen claimed his 19th win of the season at the 2023 finale, capping off his third consecutive championship win in impressive fashion. With 19 wins under his belt this term from 22 races, the Dutchman barely broke a sweat, finishing nearly 18 seconds ahead of second placed Charles Leclerc.

But away from the glitz and glamour of the middle eastern F1 season affair, ugly scenes at an Abu Dhabi VIP party saw racing fans attacking each other with champagne bottles. Video footage posted to social media shows how the drama occurred, with security playing the role of peacemakers.

However, nearly 30 seconds later, tensions begin to rise as individuals within the VIP area begin to confront each other. A fracas then breaks out, with punches being thrown.

One fan commented: "I feel sorry for the people that paid good money to enjoy themselves and have to put up with these helmets."

Another added: "Out of all the places to go and have a tear up why do it in the Middle East." And a third said: "Going all the way to Abu Dhabi to fight, complete waste of money."
