Brentford slap £100m price tag on Ivan Toney

Chelsea are chasing Ivan Toney’s signature in the New Year as they look to bolster their front line heading into the second half of the season. But the Blues aren’t expected to be the only ones looking to acquire the Brentford hotshot’s services.

According to the Sun, Mauricio Pochettino’s staff are convinced that Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a bid for Toney as well. The Englishman has been linked with a move away from Gtech Community Stadium in January when his betting ban comes to an end.

Spurs were unable to find a suitable replacement for Harry Kane over the summer but it is expected that they will dip into the market in January. Toney is understood to be towards the top of their shortlist while highly-rated Lille centre-forward Jonathan David is also touted as a possible signing.

Tottenham have shrugged off links to Toney, claiming they are focused on adding defensive cover in the new year following to ease their injury crisis at the back. But speculation continues to swirl.

North London rivals Arsenal are also said to be keen on snapping up Toney, who is valued at £100million by the Bees. Toney previously spoke about his admiration for the Gunners during an appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast.

Speaking about his future, he said: “The next club I go to, if I was to move, would be the right club. I’ve been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I’ve liked Arsenal.
