{"id":297999,"date":"2023-11-24T07:23:54","date_gmt":"2023-11-24T07:23:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=297999"},"modified":"2023-11-24T07:23:54","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T07:23:54","slug":"weston-mckennie-says-he-let-people-down-during-loan-spell-at-leeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/weston-mckennie-says-he-let-people-down-during-loan-spell-at-leeds\/","title":{"rendered":"Weston McKennie says he &apos;let people down&apos; during loan spell at Leeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>USMNT star Weston McKennie admits to having &#8216;let people down&#8217; during his failed loan spell at Leeds but insists the experience is helping him flourish at Juventus<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The midfielder, 25, withdrew from U.S. camp before its loss to Trinidad &amp; Tobago<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He was joined by Brenden Aaronson\u00a0\u00a0and Tyler Adams as U.S. players at Leeds<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>DailyMail.com provides all the latest international sports news<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>USA&#8217;s Weston McKennie has admitted to having &#8216;let certain people down&#8217; during his forgettable loan spell at Leeds last season, after being unable to prevent the Whites from being relegated.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old midfielder has been finding his feet at Juventus this season under manager Massimiliano Allegri, since he moved back to Italy during the summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He has played in all 12 of the club&#8217;s Serie A games so far this season and is integral part of the U.S. men national team&#8217;s starting lineup, playing all 90 minutes in the first leg of the Star and Stripes&#8217; CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal against Trinidad and Tobago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But, earlier this year, the Washington native faced the wrath of Leeds fans after only registering an assist, while also picking up seven yellow cards, in 19 Premier League matches, as the Yorkshire club&#8217;s bid to avoid relegation was ultimately unsuccessful.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Leeds ended up second-bottom of the 2022-23 season, with the likes of McKennie and two other Americans on the team, midfielder Tyler Adams, and forward Brenden Aaronson.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/24\/05\/78186439-12786335-image-a-110_1700804822511.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>U.S. midfielder Weston McKennie, 25, has played all 12 of Juventus&#8217; Serie A matches this year<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I didn&#8217;t have the best performances. I felt I let certain people down,&#8217; McKennie told Sky Sport Italia of his enduring time in England.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But at the end of the day, when I came back, I think it was important for me in general to have an experience like that, to have that happen to me at this moment of my career, because when I came back it felt like I was coming back here for the first time again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;When I first came to Juventus, nobody knew who I Was, everybody doubted me, everybody was against me, and I think it was important for me because it put chips back on my shoulder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/24\/05\/78186403-12786335-image-a-111_1700804834999.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>McKennie was unable to prevent Leeds from avoiding Premier League relegation last season<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;That&#8217;s when I perform best and prove that I can do it and that I belong, so it was nice to come back and have that feeling again.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Before the U.S.&#8217;
