Hamilton certain Red Bull's fate is sealed after what F1 rival Verstappen did

Teams and drivers are gearing up for the final race of the 2023 season and there is still plenty to play for at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Plenty of battles are ongoing, especially in the Constructors’ Championship, as we are expecting yet another exciting race after the success of the Las Vegas GP.

Lewis Hamilton has been in the headlines as Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has claimed that the Brit approached his team about the possibility of joining them, before penning a new contract with Mercedes.

The seven-time world champion’s future was a hot topic of discussion before he committed his future to the Silver Arrows, as we could have seen a sensational partnership between Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Instead they will be in competition again next year, as Mercedes’ attention will be on their fight with Ferrari for second place in the Constructors’ Championship as just four points separates the two teams before they head to the United Arab Emirates.

    George Russell doubts

Mercedes have been warned that they may have made a mistake in replacing Valtteri Bottas with George Russell.

The Brit will be the first to admit that this season has not been ideal, as F1 commentator Peter Windsor has questioned the decision to make him Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate.

On his YouTube channel, Windsor said: “When you watch Bottas in that black Alfa, it looks a little bit like Bottas in the black Mercedes days and you still think: ‘Hmm, did Mercedes do the right thing in firing him and replacing him with George Russell?’

“Not because George isn’t quick – George is a quicker driver than Valtteri, absolutely no doubt about that – but in terms of getting the best from Lewis, would we have a different Lewis if Valtteri was in the other car? That’s an unanswered question, of course.”

    Hamilton to Red Bull talks

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has confirmed that talks were held with Lewis Hamilton before he signed a new contract with Mercedes.

The Brit’s future had been up in the air and there was a possibility of a Red Bull partnership of Hamilton and Max Verstappen, before he signed with the Silver Arrows.

“We have had several conversations over the years about Lewis joining,” Horner admitted. “They have reached out a few times. Most recently, earlier in the year, there was an inquiry about whether there would be any interest.”
