{"id":297740,"date":"2023-11-21T19:24:35","date_gmt":"2023-11-21T19:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=297740"},"modified":"2023-11-21T19:24:35","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T19:24:35","slug":"england-star-tom-curry-ruled-out-for-the-rest-of-the-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/rugby-union\/england-star-tom-curry-ruled-out-for-the-rest-of-the-season\/","title":{"rendered":"England star Tom Curry ruled out for the rest of the season"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>England star Tom Curry to miss Six Nations after being ruled out for the rest of the season&#8230; as Sale flanker requires surgery on hip injury<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tom Curry hasn\u2019t played for Sale since helping England finish third at World Cup<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He missed the 2023 Six Nations and World Cup warm-ups because of injury<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ben Earl will also be out for up to eight weeks after undergoing knee surgery<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>England and Sale flanker Tom Curry has been ruled out of the rest of the season with a hip injury that requires surgery in what amounts to a devastating blow for the player.<\/p>\n<p>Curry, 25, won his 50th cap in England\u2019s World Cup bronze medal match against Argentina \u2013 one which saw Steve Borthwick\u2019s side seal a surprise third-place tournament finish.<\/p>\n<p>But he will now miss not only the 2024 Six Nations and summer tour of New Zealand with his country but also the entire Premiership and Champions Cup campaigns with his ambitious club.<\/p>\n<p>Curry hasn\u2019t played for Sale since the World Cup and their director of rugby Alex Sanderson revealed on Tuesday he is set for another lengthy period on the sidelines.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Tom needs a clear-out of his hip that will put him out for the rest of this season,\u2019 said Sanderson.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/19\/78074233-12776537-England_and_Sale_flanker_Tom_Curry_has_been_ruled_out_of_the_res-a-2_1700593697256.jpg\" height=\"493\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>England and Sale flanker Tom Curry has been ruled out of the rest of the season due to injury<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/19\/78075835-12776537-image-m-6_1700594006949.jpg\" height=\"438\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Ben Earl will also be out of action for up to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his knee<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He has been back down to London to have further extensive X-rays under movement with a different consultant and this is the best thing for him in the short term.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I know it sounds long-term, the season, but it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He is still a young lad and it\u2019s the best thing for him in the short-term to ensure he is able to be more robust moving forward to train and progress his game the way he wants to. He has just got some wear and tear issues around his socket and a little bone that needs shaving off and cleaning up.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018My understanding is there are three procedures you can have on your hip of this nature. One is this, which is the least invasive. Then you can have a metal resurfacing and then you can have a hip replacement, so I guess this is the better of lesser evils.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Curry also missed the 2023 Six Nations and World Cup warm-ups with different injuries.<\/p>\n<p>He returned to feature at the tournament in France but was sent off against Argentina and then found himself at the centre of a racism storm involving South Africa\u2019s Bongi Mbonambi.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I was more upset than he was,\u2019 Sanderson said of Curry\u2019s latest fitness blow.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m sure there will be ebbs and flows over the next four or five months and I hope to be part of that journey with him as we get him back to where he needs to be. This is by no means the worst that could happen and he is very positive about getting back in a Sale shirt.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/19\/78074237-12776537-Curry_25_won_his_50th_cap_in_England_s_World_Cup_bronze_medal_ma-m-3_1700593722528.jpg\" height=\"495\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Curry, 25, won his 50th cap in England\u2019s World Cup bronze medal match against Argentina<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/19\/78076027-12776537-image-a-2_1700594294107.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Steve Borthwick will now have to assess his injured squad ahead of the Six Nations next year<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Curry\u2019s international team-mate Ben Earl will be out for six to eight weeks after undergoing knee surgery but should be back in action to feature for England in the Six Nations.<\/p>\n<p>The Saracens back-row was one of the star performers for Borthwick at the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Earl was injured in the warm-up of Saracens\u2019 win over London rivals Harlequins on Saturday but his club are relieved his lay-off won\u2019t be as bad as first feared.<\/p>\n<p>Saracens have lost centre Alex Lozowski to a long period on the sidelines after he suffered an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury against Harlequins.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Ben had a minor knee procedure this morning. It was his medial meniscus,\u2019 said Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall. \u2018We anticipate he\u2019ll be out for between six to eight weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I think overall it would be a good result. I think he will be playing in the month of January.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018There are three or four games in the month of January so that would be ample time for Ben to get in (for the Six Nations). He\u2019s had a busy time with a lot of minutes in August, September and October, so to have a six-week period not playing rugby might actually be good for him in the long run.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/19\/78075771-12776537-image-a-4_1700593849397.jpg\" height=\"402\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Curry alleged that South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0Bongi Mbonambi called him a &#8216;white c***&#8217; at the World Cup<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/19\/76927753-12776537-Tom_Curry_had_reported_the_alleged_comment_to_referee_Ben_O_Keef-a-1_1700594190241.jpg\" height=\"458\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>England&#8217;s flanker reported the alleged comment to referee Ben O&#8217;Keeffe during the World Cup semi-final but the South Africa star was cleared over &#8216;insufficient evidence&#8217; to prosecute<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Unfortunately, Alex had an ACL injury at the weekend and he\u2019ll be out for a lot longer. Alex will have an operation next Wednesday. It\u2019s a real shame for him but it\u2019s better news on Ben.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He (Lozowski) has been such a reliable good player for us since he arrived. I can\u2019t remember the last time he was injured to be honest. To get an injury is never easy.
