Everton deducted 10 points in record-breaking punishment

Simon Jordan has told Leeds United, Burnley and Leicester City that they ‘won’t get far’ if they seek legal action against Everton after the Toffee’s were deducted 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).

According to the Daily Mail, all three clubs plan to sue Everton for £100million each – the figure they believe they lost by being relegated to the Championship. This comes after reports from the same publication that claimed the aggravated trio had drawn up plans to do so over the summer.

Leeds and Leicester were relegated to the Championship last season just behind Everton while Burnley are said to be convinced that Everton’s spending breached PSR rules the previous season when they couldn’t beat the drop.

Yet Jordan, writing in his Mail On Sunday Column, expressed his reservations about Leeds, Burnley and Leicester’s case against Everton as he assessed the Toffee’s next steps.

He wrote: “The challenge for Everton now is what to do next. Do they really want this delayed and hanging over them when the best course of action might be to take their medicine?

“Despite the penalty, they are still only two points adrift of safety and given the struggles of the promoted clubs, it might be an idea to take this one on the chin as I don’t see Everton going down. I also don’t see those clubs lining up to sue Everton getting very far.”
