Newcastle are on the search for the next superstars of the future. Marcel Bout was recently appointed chief of global scouting at St James’ Park and has made it his mission to find the next Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala.

It is been over two years since Newcastle’s Saudi-backed takeover was completed. Eddie Howe has taken the Magpies from near the relegation zone back to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Howe has been able to splash the cash to some extent, with big money spent on the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes. But Financial Fair Play rules mean Newcastle are restricted in what they can do in the transfer market.

Making signings north of £100million may be beyond them at the moment. So Bout’s task is to find young players with the potential of reaching world-class levels.

Haaland, Bellingham and Musiala were all teenage sensations. Bout is on the lookout for future generational talents.

He told the Sunday Mirror: “I am looking for the new Haaland, Bellingham and Musiala. I am focusing on young talent up to 23 years old who have the potential to get into Newcastle’s first team.

“My motto is that if you constantly look to the left then you can’t see anything on the right. So I look everywhere. Newcastle have brought me in to find all the big talents. I want to find the pounds among the pennies.

“It is my ambition to not only point out those big talents, but also to put everything into place so these players immediately arrive at Newcastle United. I want to bring them in before they are worth £100m.”

Bout had a spell at Manchester United alongside Louis van Gaal. He had almost eight years at Old Trafford before leaving his role as chief global scout in April 2022.
