David Beckham has hailed the organizers of the first ever Grand Prix in Las Vegas for doing such a ‘great job’ before Max Verstappen cruised to victory once again in Sin City, despite Formula One being sued by fans after Thursday’s practice disaster.

The 48-year-old, ex-England captain said of Sunday night’s late event on the pre-race red carpet, hosted by Sports Illustrated ‘Club SI’: ‘I think it’s an amazing opportunity for Vegas to showcase what it’s all about. We already know what Vegas is all about…

‘But obviously, to host a major, one of the biggest sporting events in the world… here in Las Vegas… I think it’s exciting. And you know, a night race is always special, and I think, so far, from what I’ve seen, they’ve done a great job.

‘We hope the drivers and the teams are happy, which is the most important thing.’

The former L.A. Galaxy, Real Madrid and Manchester United player was joined by a myriad of A-list names for this weekend’s big event in Las Vegas, including Shaquille O’Neal, Usain Bolt and Gordon Ramsey.

The Premier League Hall of Famer was also asked about his thoughts of the World Cup potentially coming to Las Vegas in less then three years time, even though the city isn’t technically part of FIFA’s list to host games.

‘To be honest, I’m personally excited because the last World Cup was such a huge success,’ Beckham said. ‘I’m obviously excited around World Cup year but I think it’s another moment, especially after being an owner of a MLS team.

‘The lead up to this World Cup [in America, Canada and Mexico] I think is going to be really exciting and it’s going to be showcased in the way it should be showcased. So, I’m personally excited.

‘Obviously, Las Vegas gets to host one of the games, who knows… But if it does, then I think it’s going to be spectacular.’

Beckham’s also excited about Lionel Messi potentially winning SI Sportsman of the Year Award

The Inter Miami co-owner also shared his thoughts on the team’s star player, Lionel Messi, being nominated for SI Sportsman of the Year Award, which has been won by the likes of LeBron James (2012, 2016), Tom Brady (2021, 2005) and Michael Phelps (2008) in the past.

‘I’ll always nominate him for any kind of award. But obviously, to have him in our team, have him in MLS and America, it’s very special,’ Beckham said. ‘Not just for Miami fans, but the whole of America, we’re talking about Miami and MLS and they’re talking about the game.

‘So, that’s the most important thing and Leo’s been a revelation since the moment he touchdowned in Miami. And next season, I think will be even more special.’
