Everton fans looking for sympathy following their brutal Premier League point deduction won’t find it from rival fans after they ripped into the ‘doomed club’.

After months of investigations, Everton were slapped with a 10-point deduction from the Premier League after findings from an independent commission found them guilty of breaching profit and sustainability rules on Friday.

The club were referred to an independent commission in March following an audit of all of the league’s clubs’ financial records for the 2021/22 season. Everton were found to have recorded losses of £371.8m over the previous three years, with regulations allowing clubs to only lose a maximum of £105m over that period.

While Everton claim the decision is ‘disproportionate’ and an ‘unjust sporting sanction’, they have already communicated that they intend to appeal the decision. But unsurprisingly, some fans of rival clubs have ripped into the club for breaking the rules in the first place.

One comment on Twitter said: “Everton stayed up last two seasons by cheating. Ask the clubs that finished below them if a 10-point deduction is fair or not. They’ll stay up regardless this season, so it’s no punishment at all.”

A Burnley fan hit out at the decision after the Clarets were relegated in 2021 as Everton stayed up, they said: “Given the fact we were relegated purely for Everton cheating for two years, I do not see how only a 10-point deduction is fair.”

Another rival fan wrote: “The Everton FFP points deduction is fair enough if they’ve demonstrably broken the rules.” With a fourth adding: “They’re doomed, couldn’t happen to a nicer club.”

The punishment applied to Everton sees them fall to 19th place in the table, only ahead of Burnley on goal difference. Sean Dyche’s side are only two points from safety despite the ban, after winning three of their last five league games.
