Luis Diaz's father was reduced to tears as he watched his son score twice against Brazil from the stands following his kidnap hell.

The Liverpool forward, 26, grabbed both of Colombia's goals as they came from behind to a seal a 2-1 win over Brazil and leapfrog them in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table. Diaz Sr., who spent 12 days in captivity after being seized by a Colombian terror group last month, was seen gushing in his seat after both goals, with fans labelling footage of his reaction "the best thing you'll see all day".

Diaz Jr. got emotional too, and was seen fighting back tears after rushing over to the side of the pitch following his goals to dedicate them to his dear old dad. Naturally, fans on social media were loving what they saw, too.

One wrote: "Almost in tears myself watching this. What an amazing moment. They both deserve it so much." Another said: "Wholesome content right here," while a third beamed: "This is why football is the best. How could anyone hate this game?"

Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli gave Brazil the lead in the game after just four minutes, but a quickfire Diaz double with a quarter-of-an-hour to go flipped the game on its head. The result marks the first time Colombia have beaten Brazil in World Cup qualifying in 15 matches.

Reacting after the game, an emotional Diaz said: "I thank God. He makes it all possible. We have always lived tough moments, but life makes you strong and brave. So is soccer and so is life. We deserved this victory."

Diaz's Liverpool team-mate Alisson Becker, who was in goal for Brazil, admitted afterwards: "He is a friend, he suffered a lot these days. This is beyond football, he deserves it."

Diaz's father, who is also called Luis, was kidnapped by Colombian guerrilla group ELN alongside his wife, Cilenis Marulanda on October 29. Cilenis was subsequently found by police a few hours later, but Luis wasn't released until nearly two weeks later.

It's understood he was forced to walk at gunpoint for over a week as his captors pushed him deep into the jungle in an attempt to evade the police. Diaz Jr. missed Liverpool's clash with Nottingham Forest following news of his father's kidnap, but he continued to train while attempts were made to bring his dad home.

He featured for Liverpool against Luton a few days later, and celebrated his late equaliser in the game by lifting his shirt to reveal a message which read: 'Freedom for Papa'. Upon his release, Diaz Sr. revealed that his son had encouraged him "to keep going" while speaking to him on the phone during the ordeal.
