{"id":297179,"date":"2023-11-15T16:24:32","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T16:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=297179"},"modified":"2023-11-15T16:24:32","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T16:24:32","slug":"villas-boas-reveals-massive-arguments-with-data-analysts-at-spurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/villas-boas-reveals-massive-arguments-with-data-analysts-at-spurs\/","title":{"rendered":"Villas-Boas reveals &apos;massive arguments&apos; with data analysts at Spurs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Andre Villas-Boas reveals &#8216;massive, massive arguments&#8217; with data analysts while managing Tottenham which left him &#8217;emotionally DRAINED&#8217; as he tried to sign a midfielder from Porto in 2012<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Andre Villas-Boas was left &#8217;emotinally drained&#8217; following data-based squabbles\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He wanted to sign his former player from Porto, but the club insisted otherwise\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pochettino acted like he was denied entry to a nightclub &#8211; It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Andre Villas-Boas has spoken about the unexpected emotional rigour of arguing about signings with data analysts while at Tottenham.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Portuguese manager spent 18 months at Spurs between July 2012 and December 2013 and wanted to sign a midfield star he had coached at Porto.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He recalls &#8216;massive, massive arguments&#8217; as he wanted to make his compatriot one of his first signings &#8211; but the club wagged their fingers and said the player was only sixth on their data-led midfield shortlist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spurs pushed ahead with other targets, including Mousa Dembele, and returned for the mystery man at the end of the summer window, missing out on his signature by minutes &#8211; despite agreeing a \u00a324million fee for him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That midfielder went on to be a Euros winner, a Ligue 1 winner, and a quality Premier League player, having been well-established in Portugal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/15\/77835635-0-image-m-98_1700061660383.jpg\" height=\"476\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Andre Villas-Boas discussed the emotional woes brought on by battling with data analysts<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/15\/77835695-0-image-a-99_1700061733209.jpg\" height=\"398\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He wanted to sign Joao Moutinho from Porto, but he was told the midfielder was only sixth on their data-led list of targets\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/15\/77835857-0-image-m-101_1700061962267.jpg\" height=\"443\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The club instead opted for Mousa Dembele and by the time they went back in for Moutinho, it was too little, too late\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>The player in question is Joao Moutinho, who played for Sporting CP and Porto before moving on to Monaco, Wolves, and now Braga.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I wanted to sign Joao Moutinho and he was sitting sixth on the list compiled by data people.
