Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has ended his beef with rap icon Drake following a conversation via their direct messages on Instagram. It started back in 2014, when the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion blamed the musician’s tunes for what he felt was an unsatisfactory performance in the third round at Wimbledon nine years ago.

“I came out really flat, so hopefully I won’t listen to that again! It was actually Drake. Didn’t do the job for me,” Kyrgios said after defeating Jirí Veselý 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 at the All-England club. Drake took umbrage to these comments and took to Kyrgios’ comments, claiming he wanted to ‘chop him down’ after being hurt by comments he felt were disrespectful.

“I also want to meet this guy that says that he lost because he listened to my music,’ the ‘One Dance’ performer added. “I also want to meet that guy and look him in the eye and see exactly who he is as a man and size him up and then chop him right down.

“Nick whatever-his-name-is — ’cause he didn’t win, so that’s how he’s going to be remembered: ‘Nick whatever-his-name-is’.” But nearly 10 years later, Kyrgios revealed Drake contacted him recently to settle their differences, and he admitted the 2022 Wimbledon finalist is his favorite player.

Kyrgios replied: “Haha I didn’t say you are trash. I love your music my bro, I hope you are good.” Drake then wished Kyrgios a speedy recovery from his injuries which sidelined him for all but one match in the 2023 season.

“We will link up soon,” the five-time Grammy Award winner said. “Speedy recovery my guy.” Kyrgios captioned the Instagram story post: “Sometimes I think my life isn’t real,” as he processed the conversation he had with the Canadian artist. The Australian has played just one match all season, which was a defeat to China’s Yibing Wu in the opening round at the Stuttgart Open in June.

The 28-year-old had knee surgery in January and was then forced to pull out of the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open tournaments due to a wrist problem. In an interview with Word Wide Sports, Kyrgios provided an update on his recovery, and if a potential return at his home slam of the Australian Open in 2024 is on the cards. “There’s still a lot of work to do,” the former Wimbledon runner-up said.

Don’t miss…
