Diaz&#8217;s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was left behind in a car.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said they could not rule out the possibility that he had been smuggled over the border to Venezuela through a dense jungle, meaning he would have been out of reach of Colombian police. A reward of about \u00a340,000 was offered for crucial information.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/10\/18\/77662927-0-image-a-6_1699641710175.jpg\" height=\"417\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Luis Manuel Diaz Jimenez spoke for the first time since being released after being kidnapped<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/10\/18\/77663273-12735673-image-a-23_1699642586462.jpg\" height=\"441\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He broke down in tears as he thanked God and his community in a press conference at his home in Colombia<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/10\/18\/77663283-12735673-image-a-24_1699642620917.jpg\" height=\"436\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He called for all parties to &#8216;put down our weapons&#8217; and work towards peace in the country<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>He was eventually recovered and explained that he called his son as soon as possible, with the Liverpool star telling his father &#8216;to keep going because things don&#8217;t end here and to have a lot of strength to recover from everything that has happened&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Thursday, Colombian media reported that the process of liberating Luis Diaz&#8217;s father had begun, with a helicopter taking off from the city of Valledupar to a meeting place where rebels would stage the handover.<\/p>\n<p>Radar showed the helicopter circling close to the Venezuelan border in the Perija Mountain Range. Images following the handover showed Diaz Snr flanked by two men who appeared to be priests. He was then seen sitting on the ground having his blood pressure checked.<\/p>\n<p>Diaz spoke for the first time on Friday at what was a celebration of his return and called for peace in his country. &#8216;I ask my brothers from the mountains, let&#8217;s put down our weapons, let&#8217;s use the pen and the notebook, let&#8217;s work to make it Colombia is the country that has the best peace,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/10\/18\/77663383-12735673-image-a-27_1699642789061.jpg\" height=\"459\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Liverpool forward Luis Diaz had continued to play with his father captive as he hoped for his imminent release<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/10\/18\/77663277-12735673-image-a-25_1699642729435.jpg\" height=\"412\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Diaz snr broke down into tears as he addressed the media on Friday after returning home the day prior<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/10\/18\/77663361-12735673-image-a-26_1699642741778.jpg\" height=\"469\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He needed assistance to move after reportedly being made to walk for a week straight due to his captors&#8217; fears of being caught<\/p>\n<p>Friends and family gathered in his neighbourhood to greet him upon his return, with Diaz thanking God for &#8216;a second chance&#8217; after driving back home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I thank Colombia for this great support&#8217;, he added. &#8216;Very soon I will have the opportunity to greet them and give them a hug.
