Sir Jim Ratcliffe could be days away from completing his minor takeover at Manchester United as part of a £1.4billion deal.

The British billionaire is set to assume a 25% ownership in the club and take charge of football operations with the Glazer family remaining majority owners. The 71-year-old is set to play a key role at the club, despite being a season-ticket holder at Chelsea.

The club are in desperate need of a boost following a torrid start to the new season under Erik ten Hag that has included Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of Newcastle as well as three defeats from four Champions League matches.

As reported by The Sun, Ratcliffe is hoping to be in his new role by Monday November 13, following United's crunch visit of Luton Town this weekend.

It was reported in October that lifelong United fan Ratcliffe would end up having control of Ten Hag's future with the Glazers taking a step back.

Old Trafford is also in need of a revamp as continually pushed by Gary Neville who believes his former club is falling a long way behind their rivals.

Ratcliffe was free to continue negotiations with little pressure following the withdrawal of Qatari Sheikh Jassim in October.

His team declined to comment due to “confidentiality restrictions”, but they confirmed to Fabrizio Romano that they’ve withdrawn from the process.

Sheikh Jassim had made a cash bid just shy of $7billion (£5.77bn) for 100% of the club – which was rejected. He had planned $1.5bn (£1.24bn) extra investment but walked away after months of negotiations.

Neville has been very vocal on his hopes for the new structure, writing a 2,880-character takeover plan last month.

The right-back turned pundit outlined six 'non-negotiables and went on to detail his dream 'statesmanlike' ownership model.

In a comical response, his Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher referred to Neville's non-negotiables', writing: "That para is my personal favourite, there a few other crackers as well."
