Ange Postecoglou has been compared to Sir Alex Ferguson for his 'deflection' of Tottenham's bonkers tactics.

Spurs lost 4-1 to Chelsea after going down to 10-men having continued playing a high-line on the instruction of their manager despite Mauricio Pochettino's two-man advantage, which eventually led to a flurry of goals.

The Aussie was asked about his refusal to play defensively after the game but didn't go into details when insisting that he'll always try to win. Appearing on The Overlap's Stick to Football, Wright gave his thoughts while alongside Gary Neville, Jill Scott and Roy Keane.

Wright said: "When you’re seeing players getting sent off and seeing people still making crazy challenges, you’re thinking ‘what are you doing?’ When Spurs went down to nine men, I was very surprised with the tactics.

"You were thinking surely Chelsea are going to break them down in some way and obviously they did, but I couldn’t understand going down to nine men and your tactics is to be on the halfway line with defenders already pointing that way [towards their own half] without pressure on the ball.

"Chelsea didn’t score for a while and there was a bit of me that wanted Tottenham to hold on, but there was no way they were going to hold on when they had their line like that.

"When I was watching it, I was thinking ‘if [Erik] Ten Hag had those tactics, everybody would have lost their minds’, but the deflection tactics of Ange [Postecoglou] was like Fergie-esque.

"The way he deflected everything off the way they [Spurs] played, after what happened and getting two players sent off for craziness, and then playing that high line, I thought that was genius from his point of view. I can’t even think back to seeing that kind of ploy – I was stunned.

"What I couldn’t understand with Tottenham is Chelsea, as much as they’re creating chances, they are missing chances left, right and centre so to not have the two banks of four with one in front and maybe break on them, to frustrate Chelsea when you’re 1-1, was baffling me."

Sir Alex was known for his masterful work in riling up opposition managers and defending his own team in the media, which Wright was reminded of at the weekend.

The Scot picked up 12 Premier League titles during his illustrious managerial career, with Postecoglou's trophy cabinet currently including five trophies in Scotland.

Tottenham's loss was their first in the Premier League this season with Postecoglou's men now sitting a point behind leaders Manchester City.
