Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall has hit back at Gareth Taylor after the Manchester City boss accused him of ‘bullying’ the fourth official during their Women’s Super League match.

The two coaches were involved in some heated exchanges on the sideline as Arsenal edged a 2-1 victory at Meadow Park.

Taylor was critical of Eidevall’s behaviour after the game and claimed he had to ‘protect’ fourth official Melissa Burgin from his opposite number.

‘That is always the same with him because he is constantly at the fourth official and I think it is bullying,’ Taylor told the BBC.

‘I am protecting the fourth official but that’s not my job.’

Eidevall was not booked or spoken to by the officials and said Taylor’s comments were bordering on slander.

‘I was really disappointed with the comments,’ Eidevall said ahead of the Gunners’ League Cup match with Bristol City.

‘There is no truth in them. The wording that Gareth used afterwards is borderline slander. Either he is not very good with the truth or he is not very good with the language.

‘I don’t think his comments are acceptable and I would expect him to reach out with an apology but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen.’

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner was asked about Taylor’s comments and described the City boss as a ‘trustworthy’ character.

‘I know there are occasions when we’ve played against each other that passion runs high on the sides. But I wasn’t at that game and if it has spilled over then we, as coaches, need to make sure we stay between the lines and the respect needed.

Eidevall claimed that Taylor’s wording was ‘borderline slander’ and said he should apologise

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner has described the City boss as a ‘trustworthy’ character

‘It’s hard for me to comment on that situation, but there are times I’ve been over passionate.

‘What I’d say about Gareth [Taylor] is, if Gareth has seen what he’s seen, he’s a trustworthy character. I’m sure he’s seen things he might not like and maybe Jonas has seen the same.

‘But our responsibility is to stay within the guidelines of respect. We our here to be role models for the next generation of coaches, and also our players and fans.’
