Erling Haaland kept the promise he made to Didier Drogba after giving Manchester City the lead against Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Norwegian broke the deadlock from the penalty spot mid-way through the first half and ran off towards the corner flag pumping his arms out to the side, just as Drogba used to do back in his Chelsea hey day. Haaland had promised to do so during last week's Ballon d'Or ceremony, which was co-hosted by Drogba.

The Ivorian urged Haaland to either pull out his old celebration or the 'fists up' celebration Gary Lineker used to do. He responded: "We'll see next goal. I celebrate in the moment, so I'll think of both of you when I score my next goal and will decide!"

Viewers, particularly those supporting Chelsea, were loving what they saw, and rushed to social media to fawn over Haaland's tribute. One person wrote: "Game recognise game." Another said: "Haaland pulling out the Drogba. Class."

A third joked: "City don't have any legends so they borrow from other clubs," while a fourth said: "Should have saved this for the Chelsea game at the weekend."
