Former pro boxer Dominic Negus enjoyed a seamless weekend as part of the security team at Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou.

He had just one major complaint – and it revolved around a certain John Fury. The father of the Gypsy King was up to his usual antics ahead of the fight between the world heavyweight champion and the MMA star.

During the pre-fight press conference, John tried to steal the show by whipping his shirt off and making the face-off a three-way affair as well as exchanging barbs with Mike Tyson, who helped Ngannou prepare for his first boxing bout. John’s performance didn’t impress Negus, who fought Olympic champion Audley Harrison at the end of his 19-fight pro career.

Negus, a well-known face in British boxing, was out in Saudi Arabia as part of the security operation overseeing the whole show, working for Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. Having done security at fights for more than 30 years, he was thrilled to be part of such an impressive event. But had some strong words for Fury Snr.

“There was never going to be trouble over there, only John Fury changing his nappy again!” he joked in an interview with Daily Star Sport. “I mean that guy is just a melt. He thinks it’s the f****** John Fury show, it’s a joke. It’s all about him.

What do you think of John Fury's antics? Tell us in the comments section below

“You’ve got your son fighting, let the boy do his job. You had your chance years ago, you weren’t a good fighter anyway back in the day. All you are now is a big, overgrown bully.

“How many times has he said he’s going to smack people? He’s f****** smacked no one. Sometimes you need to be quiet, it ain’t your night, it’s your boy’s night.

“But it was a great show to be involved in, it was a great honour. We were there for Queensberry Promotions overseeing the whole show. As for Tyson [Fury], he must have 20 or 30 people wiping his a*** and half of them are there for the ride. There were so many hangers-on there.

“There was the other boys fighting [on the undercard]. There was a team of us and our job was to make sure everyone was happy. We put things in place, make sure barriers are set up properly, do a recce of the arena, make sure there is good access in and out. It went really well. Everything went like clockwise and everyone was really happy.”

Negus would love to return to Saudi for Fury’s world heavyweight reunification fight with Oleksandr Usyk, whenever that takes place given the original December 23 date is now out of the question.

But before then, Negus has a fight of his own. At the age of 53, the Londoner will step into a bare-knuckle boxing ring for the BKB 35 show at the O2 on November 25. It will technically be his bare-knuckle fighting debut, although he has had plenty of unofficial and unlawful scraps down the years.

“I could fill Wembley Arena with all the people I’ve knocked out over the years,” he laughed. “I’ve chinned people in boxing rings, on the street, outside nightclubs.”

Negus, he readily admits, has been his own worst enemy over the years by getting into far too many scrapes, but has turned over a new leaf in recent times. He says his daughter, now 19, has been the biggest influencer to leading a calmer lifestyle. His dalliance with BKB will see him scratch a long-standing itch.

“I’m training harder than ever for this,” said Negus, who has “kept his hand in” by boxing on unlicensed shows. “This is the hardest I’ve trained since I fought Audley Harrison. I’m taking it really seriously.

“I’m 53 and I know my time is nearly up, but I know I can hold my own with most people out there. I need to redeem myself. I need to prove something to myself.”

Negus has written a new book – 'Dominic Negus: What about me?' – which is available to buy HERE priced £19.99.
