leaving Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag facing up to seven matches without his No 1 goalkeeper<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Andre Onana recently returned to international football after quitting in 2022\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Erik ten Hag&#8217;s other goalkeeping options are Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Follow Mail Sport&#8217;s new Manchester United WhatsApp channel for all the breaking news\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Andre Onana will reportedly play for Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations early in 2024, despite previously quitting international football.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The tournament will run through January and into February, meaning Manchester United could be left without their first-choice goalkeeper for seven games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mail Sport reported on Tuesday that Onana was considering whether to go to the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Onana retired from international football in December after the World Cup following a row with head coach Rigobert Song, but returned for the final AFCON qualifier against Burundi in September and played against Senegal last month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, i\u00a0reports that the 27-year-old wants to play in the tournament, although his shaky start at Manchester United made him doubt whether he should go.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/10\/77264231-0-image-a-1_1698835813592.jpg\" height=\"435\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Andre Onana has reportedly said he wants to play at the Africa Cup of Nations early next year<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/11\/65003091-0-It_is_believed_to_have_come_after_a_shouting_match_with_manager_-a-7_1698836501833.jpg\" height=\"440\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He quit international football last December after a sensational row with Rigobert Song but has recently returned\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>A source close to the player told i: &#8216;At the moment he plans to play in every game he is called up for.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Were Cameroon to go all the way to the final, Onana would miss four Premier League games, potentially two FA Cup ties,\u00a0 and maybe a Carabao Cup semi-final.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The tournament runs from January 13 to February 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With Onana absent, Erik ten Hag would face a selection dilemma.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>United&#8217;s back-up options are Altay Bayindir, who they signed from Fenerbache for \u00a34.2million in the summer, and Tom Heaton.<\/p>\n<p>It marks a strong U-turn from last December, when he was expelled from the Cameroonian World Cup squad after a shouting match with Song over goalkeeper playing styles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Song reportedly lambasted Onana for playing too riskily with his feet and he was replaced by\u00a0Devis Epassy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/11\/77264815-0-image-a-8_1698836567592.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It could leave Erik ten Hag with a selection headache for seven games in three competitions<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/11\/77264885-0-image-a-9_1698836640560.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Tom Heaton is one of the options that Manchester United could turn to in Onana&#8217;s absence\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/11\/77264901-0-image-a-10_1698836686340.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Altay Bayindir, who is yet to play for the club, is another option that Ten Hag could turn to\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the time,\u00a0<span>Onana reportedly saw his relationship with the team as &#8216;irreversible&#8217; despite attempts from Cameroon Football Federation president and iconic former striker Samuel Eto&#8217;o to mediate talks between him and Song.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While fans sometimes express discontent with players participating in AFCON, a mid-season tournament, it is of equal value to other international tournaments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sebastien Haller slammmed the &#8216;disrespect&#8217; towards the competition when asked by reporters in 2021 if he would play in AFCON.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8216;This question shows the disrespect for Africa.\u00a0Would this question ever get asked to a European player ahead of the Euros?
