{"id":295421,"date":"2023-10-30T01:56:08","date_gmt":"2023-10-30T01:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=295421"},"modified":"2023-10-30T01:56:08","modified_gmt":"2023-10-30T01:56:08","slug":"man-united-should-strip-bruno-fernandes-of-captaincy-claims-roy-keane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/man-united-should-strip-bruno-fernandes-of-captaincy-claims-roy-keane\/","title":{"rendered":"Man United should STRIP Bruno Fernandes of captaincy claims Roy Keane"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Manchester United should STRIP Bruno Fernandes of the club captaincy following the Red Devils&#8217; derby loss to rivals Manchester City, claims Roy Keane: &#8216;He is the complete opposite to what a captain should be&#8217;<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Keane suggested Fernandes &#8216;whinging and moaning&#8217; is detrimental\u00a0to the team<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>The Red Devils star struggled to make an impact against rivals City on Sunday<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Keane also suggested that off-field ownership\u00a0issues damage on-field showings<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Roy Keane has urged Manchester United to change their captain following their 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p>United continued their poor start to the season with a lowly defeat to their local rivals in the Manchester derby, and were once again booed off by their own fans as sections of the crowd turned on manager Erik ten Hag.<\/p>\n<p>Ten Hag received jeers when he substituted forward Rasmus Hojlund with the Red Devils chasing the game, before those in attendance made their feelings known at the full time whsitle.<\/p>\n<p>Erling Haaland&#8217;s brace and a Phil Foden goal ensured the champions kept tabs with the leaders in the Premier League as they look to retain their title again, while United are currently eighth in the table having lost five of their first 10 league matches.<\/p>\n<p>Keane, a former United captain, speaking on Sky Sports, analysed the changes needed at his former side, and was pretty set to where to start.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/18\/77149685-0-image-a-27_1698605486385.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Roy Keane has urged Manchester United to strip Bruno Fernandes (pictured) of the club captaincy<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/18\/77149707-0-image-a-33_1698605561559.jpg\" height=\"363\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Keane, a former United captain, said that the midfielder is &#8216;the complete opposite of what a captain should be&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/18\/77149689-0-image-a-28_1698605492256.jpg\" height=\"515\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Fernandes struggled to have an impact on the game as his side lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the latest Manchester derby<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;After today, watching him again today, I would definitely take the captaincy off him. 100 per cent. I know it&#8217;s a big decision, they changed it with Maguire, but Fernandes is not captain material.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He&#8217;s a talented player, no doubt about it, but I think what I saw today with him again, he&#8217;s whinging, he&#8217;s moaning, he&#8217;s throwing his arms up in the air constantly, it really isn&#8217;t acceptable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;What we saw today, I would take that off him. You have to start somewhere, we talk about board level, managers, I would start at that because the manager is capable of doing that and holding his hands up and saying: &#8220;Look, I got it wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Fernandes is a brilliant footballer, but, in terms of captain material, he&#8217;s the opposite of what I&#8217;d want in a captain.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/18\/77149699-0-image-a-30_1698605499745.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Fernandes was only appointed club captain in the summer after former skipper Harry Maguire (pictured) had it taken away from him<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/18\/77149861-0-image-m-35_1698605676269.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Keane also suggested that off-the-field ownership issues continue to plague on-field events<\/p>\n<p>Fernandes was only appointed club captain in the summer when Ten Hag stripped former skipper Harry Maguire of the role amid his poor run of form meant he had lost his place in the team.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s been unable to help United improve their fortunes, however, with off-the-field issues surrounding the ownership of United dominating talk around the club, and Keane suggested it&#8217;s continuing to have an impact on the team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;When things aren&#8217;t right at a club, one bad decision seems to follow another.
