Ice hockey player Adam Johnson has died aged 29 after a \u2018freak accident\u2019, his club Nottingham Panthers have confirmed. Johnson suffered a cut to the neck during the Panthers’ Challenge Cup match against Sheffield Steelers and has died from his injuries.<\/p>\n
The fixture was stopped during the 35th minute as paramedics rushed to Johnson’s attention after an incident involving a skate which made contact with his neck. He was later taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.<\/p>\n
Nottingham Panthers tweeted shortly after the incident that the 8,000 fans in the venue had been \u201casked to leave the building due to a major medical emergency\u201d. His club have said they are \u201ctruly devastated\u201d by Johnson\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Nottingham Panthers are truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night,\u201d a statement read.<\/p>\n
