Man Utd reveal Premier League record annual revenue but still make loss

The first Manchester derby of the season will take place at Old Trafford later today, with both sides looking to maintain winning runs by stealing all three points from their bitter rivals. Manchester City will be the favourites as they look to close the gap on Premier League leaders Tottenham but Manchester United will have high hopes of springing a surprise with the benefit of home advantage.

Both sides will head into the contest on the back of important midweek victories in the Champions League group stages. United saw off Copenhagen in dramatic circumstances to register their first European win of the season, while City made light work of Young Boys to extend their perfect record at the top of Group G.

There will be an unusual element to today’s Manchester derby, with kick-off scheduled for 3.30pm despite Premier League games on Sundays usually starting an hour later. The decision was made at the request of both clubs, although no specific reason was given apart from the fact that the relative parties agreed to a change.

A statement issued on United’s website said: “The derby with Manchester City will be staged towards the end of the month, with the Old Trafford encounter being moved to 29 October, kicking off at 3.30pm.

“The fixture, which we won 2-1 last season with Marcus Rashford netting a memorable winner, is to be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK. The unusual start time was agreed following consultation between the clubs, the broadcaster and local authorities.”

The earlier game between West Ham and Everton has also been moved forward to accommodate the unique kick-off time at Old Trafford. The match at the London Stadium will begin at 1pm, rather than 2pm, to avoid clashing with the Manchester derby as part of Sky Sports’ coverage of both fixtures.
