Mauricio Pochettino admitted he shares Chelsea’s supporters unhappiness after their trip to Wolves was moved to Christmas Eve.

The switch was confirmed by the Premier League, a decision branded ‘totally unacceptable’ by Chelsea’s Supporters’ Trust who also called for the decision to be reversed.

Pochettino said: ‘Our supporters are not happy? Me either. I’m not happy also because [December] 23rd is my anniversary with my wife and I need to travel to Wolves and I’m not going to spend the night of the 23rd in my house.

‘I believe I am not going to convince her to come [to Wolverhampton].

‘And the 24th for Argentinian people is a really important night and [I] hope to arrive to celebrate on time after the game. Our fans are not happy and I am not happy also.’

Asked if the club will lobby for a change to the date of the game Pochettino said: ‘It is difficult because it is not easy to change. We have to accept we are in England.

‘I need to adapt myself and even if I am not happy I need to do my best to be in our best level and accept this is a situation we cannot change.’

Paddy Power have attempted to ease Chelsea fans’ pain about the frustrating fixture scheduling – by offering to pay for their buses to and from Wolverhampton.

The bookies said they wanted to ensure fans made it home for Christmas – with travel chaos likely as drivers hit the motorway in an attempt to be with their loved ones on December 25.

Sources insist the change was pushed for primarily by broadcasters Sky leaving the clubs relatively helpless.

In an attempt to minimise the impact on supporters and their travel plans the day before Christmas both clubs lobbied for the kick-off time to be brought forward.

And the Premier League have made an exception to allow the game to kick-off at 1pm rather than the usual 2pm earlier slot on a Sunday.

The Blues will have to make the trip up north to play Wolves on December 24 before hosting Crystal Palace on December 27

Still, the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust do not consider that the end of the matter and have called for talks with the Premier League.

They said: ‘It is totally unacceptable that Wolves v Chelsea has been rescheduled for Christmas Eve.

‘Since rumours began to circulate on this issue, the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust has been clear that selecting this kick off time will place another hurdle in the way of match-going supporters.

‘Not only could this lead to staffing issues at Molineux but holiday transport timetables will futher inconvenience supporters.

‘On Tuesday October 24 we requested an urgent meeting with the relevant decision makers within the Premier League.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust issued a statement calling for their league game against Wolves to not be played on Christmas Eve

‘We expect that this meeting held very soon alongside the Wolves 1877 Trust and the Football Supporters’ Association.

‘The Chelsea Supporters Trust will formally request that the Premier League properly consults supporters on this issue and that they reverse this decision.’

Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday December 23 has been moved to a later, 5.30pm kick-off leaving supporters facing a travel headache to get back. The last train back to London leaves Liverpool at 8.08pm and arrives just after midnight.

The fixture alterations mean there will be just two days out of 13 without a televised game from December 21 through to January 2 – Monday December 25 and Friday December 29 – following expectation among clubs that Christmas Day would be the only one left free during the festive period.
