Roy Hodgson delivered a spikey post-match interview following Crystal Palace’s 2-1 defeat against Tottenham, hitting out at questions from Sky Sports’ reporters before demanding more from his younger stars.

While Ange Postecoglou’s side went five points clear at the top of the table, the Eagles are now winless in their last three Premier League outings.

After conceding two goals tonight, with Joel Ward hitting a cross from James Maddison into the back of his own net before Son Heung-min doubled Tottenham’s lead, the south London outfit have now conceded six goals in their last two matches.

Despite admitting after the match that his side delivered a ‘good performance’, Hodgson hit back at questions from Sky Sports who asked him to give an assessment of Palace’s game.

‘I can never answer those questions. How do I assess tonight?’ the 76-year-old responded shrugging.

‘My overriding emotion after every defeat is pretty much the same. I’ve got to say I don’t really know how to answer that question either.

‘I’m finding it harder and harder to answer questions because they’re not specific enough for me.

‘I thought our first-half performance was very good. We gave them a good game throughout. We’re playing against a good team – unfortunately when you’re two goals to nil down it becomes very difficult.’

The home side had 13 attempts on goal during the match, more than Tottenham’s 10, and the former England boss was also asked what he thought of how his team attacked Spurs during Friday’s Premier League clash.

‘Again I don’t quite know what to say to that,’ he responded flatly. ‘Yeah we should have scored five or six against them I thought.

‘I’m sorry I don’t know what you want me to say, sorry I don’t. I don’t think we could have done more against them because they were determined not to let us do what we wanted.

‘We’re playing against a team that a top of the league. They’re two goals to nil up and we were trying and we wanted it.’

And the manager turned on his younger substitutes, claiming that they didn’t change the game for his side.

‘There was no disappointment today. Maybe the young substitutes, who we like to think we can believe in and help us to a different level, didn’t show that.

‘They didn’t do anything for us at all, really. We became much weaker when I made the substitutions.’
