Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has revealed he accidentally threw a bottle at Mauricio Pochettino during Saturday’s draw against Arsenal. The £45million summer signing immediately apologised and joked that he hopes he won’t be dropped because of it.

Palmer was asked to play as a false No 9 for the visit of the Gunners. He gave William Saliba and Gabriel a run for their money, especially in the first half.

The 21-year-old opened the scoring with a penalty after demanding to take the spot-kick instead of Raheem Sterling. He came close to scoring on a couple of other occasions on a promising night for the former Manchester City ace.

But Palmer may have got on the wrong side of his manager later in the game. His reaction to Arsenal’s equalising goal could have landed him in hot water.

He told the Chelsea website: “When they scored their second goal I was getting a drink. I went to throw the bottle away, as you do, but didn’t look.

“I just saw it loop dead slow and hit the gaffer. I said sorry to him and apologised properly after the game. Hopefully he won’t drop me for that!

“We get on well. I try to show him every day in training what I can do. Work hard and just try to repay him because he puts a lot of faith in us.”

Palmer will be hoping to keep his spot for Saturday’s visit of west London rivals Brentford. But he is ruing the two points dropped against Arsenal, having led 2-0 with 13 minutes remaining.
