Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou said he has never been a fan of VAR after their 2-1 win over Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur has followed Premier League guidance by banning all Israeli and Palestinian flags from home games since war was declared earlier this month. However, despite the ban, several Israel flags were flown ahead of Spurs’ last league outing against Fulham on Monday during a pre-match minute’s silence for those lost in the conflict.

When asked about the decision to ban fans from bringing flags into the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Ange Postecoglou said during his post-match press conference: “I am not part of that process. I’m not going to tell people how to feel, I’m not going to tell people what to do. You’ve stated what happened happened and we move on.”

According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League and EFL, who have also issued a ban on both flags, consulted a security firm before making the decision last week amid fears the flags could spark trouble in the crowds. Two days prior the Football Association (FA) issued a ban on fans bringing the flags into Wembley Stadium, ahead of England’s 3-1 victory over Italy last week.

Yet talkSPORT commentator Sam Matterface claims he saw at least seven Israel flags being flown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. “Well Spurs did say all Israeli flags and banners would be removed, as would any other flags or banners that would be considered inflammatory,” he said, live from the ground.

“There were at least seven Israeli flags that I saw were being held up inside the stadium. Spurs have a long-standing association with the Jewish community, it’s meant they’re supporters have felt it keenly and some were always intent on showing their support tonight.”

Premier League leaders Tottenham recently issued a statement to fans urging them not to bring “flags of any political or religious affiliation or anything that could possibly be considered inflammatory” into the stadium.

“The club has always considered that a football match is a time to show allegiance to a football team first and foremost,” the club told supporters in an email.
